Our Diocese

A new diocese under The Mar Thoma church was formed on 1st of July, 1980 and was named Thiruvananthapurm- Kollam Diocese. Our Diocese constitutes of 86 parishes and 7 congregations tied to 8 centres for administrative ease, 7 centers located in Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam [the southern districts of Kerala] and Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu and 1 centre in The United Arab Emirates (Dubai Parish) under which there are 86 parishes and 7 congregations. 61 priests in active service, 25 evangelists of this diocese and 2 evangelists from Suvisesha Sangham are doing graceful ministry under Kulasekharam, Kattakada, Neyyattinkara, Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Perungalloor, Anchal, UAE centers.

Theology students and other volunteers who came for practical experience as well as youths in the “Tithe of life for Christ” program gave commendable participation in the various programs of the diocese. The thoughts, prayers and advise of the 13 senior Achens of our diocese, who are retired from active service of the church, Very Rev. Abraham Samuel, Very Rev. K.G. Pothan, Rev. V. Thomas, Rev. John P Oommen, Rev. K.G. Mamman, Rev. Dr. V. E. Varghese, Rev. M. O. Oommen Sr., Rev. Ninan Oommen, Rev. K. L. Jesudas, Rev. P. M. Kurikesu, Rev. A.G. Mathew, Rev. George Varghese and Rev. M Varghese certainly encouraged and helped our activities.

From its inception in 1980 till 1988 Most Rev. Dr. Philipose Mar Chrysostam, the late Valia Metropolitan was the Bishop of this diocese.

From 1988 to 1997 July, Rt. Rev. Dr. Joseph Mar Iraneus, [Most Rev. Dr. Joseph Mar Thoma, the late Metropolitan of the church],

From 1997 August to 2005 July,  Rt. Rev. Dr. Geevarghese Mar Theodosius [ His Grace the Most Rev. Dr. Theodosius Mar Thoma Metropolitan ] .

From 2005 August to 2009 December Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Mar Paulos gave exemplary leadership as Episcopas of this Diocese.

From 2009 January till 2016 March Rt. Rev. Thomas Mar Timotheos led the diocese.

From 2016 April till 2023 December Rt. Rev. Dr. Joseph Mar Barnabas Suffragan Metropolitan led as the Episcopa of this diocese and gave excellent leadership.

And from 2024 January onwards Rt. Rev. Dr Isaac Mar Philoxenos took charge as the Episcopa of this diocese and is giving excellent leadership.

The Mar Thoma Kendram (The Mar Thoma Centre) at Mannanthala, Trivandrum was made as the Office of the diocese as well as the office and residence of the presiding Episcopa. A beautiful gate was constructed in 2012 August and necessary modifications to the building were also done then.
